optile and Lufthansa Systems Launch a Pilot Project to Improve Customers’ On-Board Payment Experience
Munich, April 4th, 2018 – today optile, an open payment platform for international online businesses, and Lufthansa Systems, a leading airline IT provider, announced the launch of a pilot project that is aimed to provide an optimized payment setup for BoardConnect, a wireless in-flight entertainment platform. The focus of the pilot project with Lufthansa Systems is to allow passengers convenient in-app payments for on-board digital content and shopping services.
With optile’s open payments solution, BoardConnect will enable passengers to make frictionless on-board purchases with whichever payment methods they prefer. Through optile, customers need to enter their payment data only once when booking a ticket on the airline’s app. After that, they can make further payments with the previously chosen payment method, which significantly simplifies the purchasing process. optile’s goal is to provide airline companies, who are using in-flight entertainment services from Lufthansa Systems, with a one-click checkout experience, whilst simultaneously enriching the payment opportunities of their on-board customers. Meanwhile, an optimized payment setup combined with a simplified customer journey will help airlines to maximize their ancillary revenue potential.
BoardConnect is an award-winning wireless in-flight entertainment solution that allows passengers to enjoy the wide range of digital content like movies, games, music as well as shopping possibilities from their own tablet or mobile devices. To access the digital services provided by the airline, passengers just need to connect to the on-board Wi-Fi. Due to the open architecture of BoardConnect, airline companies benefit from easy and seamless technical integration as well as an ability to run their preferred applications via an interface, which can be flexibly adapted to their own corporate design. BoardConnect strives to broaden connectivity possibilities during the flight via Internet and allow real-time communication, streaming and additional services from airline’s external partners.
“We at optile are very happy to collaborate with Lufthansa Systems in this pilot project since it will bring connectivity between airlines, their passengers, and external partner services to the next level,” said Jan-Oliver Stück, Corporate Relations Director at optile. “optile’s expertise in simplified and limitless payment opportunities brings an additional value to Lufthansa Systems’ entertainment services via BoardConnect. This strong collaboration will ultimately lead to personalization and optimization of both digital and payment experiences for airline customers of Lufthansa Systems and their passengers.”
“Partnering with optile allows to provide an open and flexible payment solution to our airline customers, enabling payment with a single click and supporting multiple payment methods (e.g. AliPay, PayPal, etc.). Passengers will love the frictionless payment process which makes is really easy to buy products and services. This will help airlines to keep the passenger in their ecosystem throughout the entire journey,” says Jan-Peter Gaense, Head of Passenger Experience Products & Solutions at Lufthansa Systems.
